When I first got to Maine, I was still grieving the loss of my homeland. I felt like a bird with a broken wing, looking for support.
But when my family finally started settling into our home, I found that our community was filled with warm, welcoming people that wanted to know us, pray with us, and understand the customs we'd brought from Lebanon.
The weight of their kindness knocked down walls of isolation and let light into our world. When I welcome New Mainers, I replicate that same warmth and kindness. I strive to be the support they need to take flight.
