Listen to Ze Min's story
This microphone represents finding my voice.
Even after 31 years in America, I struggled with feelings of shame about my accent. Losing it felt like a key part of belonging to this country and fitting in.
But that changed when I started working with mentors and other community leaders. They gave me the confidence to embrace my voice as a Chinese American.
They helped me realize that my accent celebrates all the different people and cultures that make Salt Lake City beautiful. I may not say every word perfectly. But speaking can inspire other immigrants to use their voices for our community.
