Listen to Sadiya's story
Books are reminders that everyone has a story to tell.
On my first day of school in the US, I wrote the word ‘colour’ on a quiz, having been raised on British English in India. When I got it back, I saw it marked with an X. It was a reminder that I had so much left to learn.
I suddenly felt exposed. I started learning more about my new life in the library. Stories were a way to journey through people’s experiences. It was exciting to build connections and empathy with others through the written word.
The more we learn about each other, the more we are able to build a loving, healthy, and just society.
