Listen to Philippa's story
When I tap into this cookbook, I can connect my friends to my home.
When I first moved to the South, socializing was hard. Even though English is my first language, people didn't understand how I spoke and communicated. But the friends I eventually made took the time to understand who I am at my core. I could share my life and culture with them.
In New Zealand, most people get this cookbook when leaving the nest. For me, cooking from it opens a dialogue. As friends learn about me through food, I get to learn more about them. That sharing is important to creating the kind of community that welcomed me.
