Listen to Faith's story
This scarf represents the warmest welcome I've received.
When I started my Peace Corps service in Nepal, I was placed with the sweetest host family. They did all of this work to prepare for my arrival. But with the language barrier, we couldn't even communicate.
My language teacher quickly helped me communicate my needs and express my gratitude. My family used the little English they knew to help teach me Nepali. They invited me to do almost anything the community was participating in.
When I first arrived in their community, they draped my neck with this scarf. The scarf is a reminder of the kind of welcoming and warmth I need to show to others.
