Daniela V.’s Lotería Cards

These lotería cards are a celebration of my identity: 100% American and 100% Latinx. 

In St. Louis, my experience with race was that it was often limited to Black and white. As a Latina, I grew up feeling caught between identities. When I started working on these lotería cards for an initiative focused on cultural and economic growth in the area, I found others who understood that struggle. It gave me the opportunity to combine Latino culture with St. Louis trivia. 


Through this project, I met people from Latin America and the Caribbean -- like my own Puerto Rican-born family -- who created their slice of home in St. Louis by building strong, welcoming communities. I felt so much pride working to make St. Louis a city where everyone can feel like we all belong.
