Daniela V.'s Lotería Cards

These lotería cards are a celebration of my identity: 100% American and 100% Latinx.

In St. Louis, race is often seen in Black and white. As a Latina, I grew up feeling caught between identities. When I started working on these lotería cards for the St. Louis Mosaic Project, I found others who understood that struggle. It gave me the opportunity to combine Latino culture with St. Louis trivia and bridge a cultural gap in the region.

Through this project, I met people from Latin America and the Caribbean -- like my own Puerto Rican-born family -- who created their slice of home in St. Louis by building strong, welcoming communities. I felt so much pride working to make St. Louis a city where we feel like we all belong.
