Listen to Chantale's story
My camera is an extension of me, a tool I use to tell the stories of the communities that have embraced me.
I've always struggled with feeling like an outsider. But over the years, I've realized that there is some beauty in that. We're all seeking out places we belong, that welcome us and accept us. Church. Work. Even the supermarket.
In some ways, I feel it more strongly as an immigrant from China. That's why I bought this camera. Photography is a way of sharing my experiences with others and helping people share theirs, too. Through images, I can help build communities and expand my own.
