Listen to Bhim's story
My keys remind me how far I've come. I lived in a refugee camp for 16 years after my family was forced to leave Bhutan.
Life in the refugee camp was one of scarcity and solitude. When I got to Ohio in 2008, the people of Akron welcomed me, help me get settled, and helped me find work. I was able to save up and buy a house after a few years.
Back in the camp, you didn't own anything. You couldn't lock anything. These keys inspire me to keep helping others.
I work with healthcare providers and interpreters serving refugee populations. So many people are looking for their place in America. I want them to know it's here.
