My ring represents generations of unconditional love.

When I met the love of my life, I worried about the impact my same-sex relationship would have on my family relationship. My parents struggled with the news. I didn't mention anything to my extended family. It was hard not to feel isolated, scared, and hurt.

Before a visit to my hometown, I emailed some extended family to introduce my partner. Their responses of love and acceptance rippled through my whole family.

This ring, which belonged to my wife's mother, fills me with pride. As an immigration attorney, I discuss our experience often. I hope my pride helps others feel validated.
